Kindergartens
Chinese parents want their kids to learn English from a young age. Kindergarten can range from 3 years old to 6 years old.
The kids are cute but the job can be difficult. You need to be full of energy and ready to go.
A successful early-years teacher is able to three things in the classroom. 1. Educational 2. creative 3. Keep things fun.
Primary Schools
Like kindergarten kids, Chinese primary school kids are cute too! They also require lots of attention. They will treat you like their best friend and remember you forever.
However, you’ll be able to communicate and reason with primary school kids a bit more easily than kinder kids, and have some two-way interaction.
Primary school kids love playing games. So if you can incorporate some fun and interesting games into your teaching, it will stand you in good stead.
Chinese Primary schools begin at Grade 1 and finish at Grade 6. After that they head to Middle School for three years.
Middle Schools
As Chinese kids turn into mature young adults, they really settle down and become quieter. In fact, one of your challenges as a high school teacher in China will be to ensure everyone participates.
As the children get to middle school. They tend to be shy. They are hitting their teenage years and they don’t want to make mistakes in front of their peers.
It’s also difficult to get their attention as they are so focused on their tests. When they reach Grade 9 they need to take the high school test. This is as important for their parents as it is for themselves.
If you persist with them they will open upto you and have a lot of fun in your class.
